Cheshire West and Chester joint strategic needs assessment
WHAT IS THE CHESHIRE WEST AND CHESTER JOINT STRATEGIC NEEDS ASSESSMENT?
Cheshire West and Chester’s Joint Strategic Needs Assessment is a shared statement on the health and social care needs of people living in Cheshire West and Chester which the Council and Primary Care Trust have a legal duty to undertake, and use to develop and improve services.
The Joint Strategic Needs Assessment:
- identifies the health and well-being needs of the local population;
- identifies any groups whose needs are not being met;
- provides information which can be used in the planning, development and delivery of health and well-being services for the next three to five years, and sets a clear direction for the next ten years;
- helps reduce health inequalities.
The needs assessment will help develop and strengthen partnerships between local health services, the council, other service providers and the communities we serve.
THE JOINT STRATEGIC NEED ASSESSMENT PROCESS
Guidance issued by the Department of Health in December 2007 specified that the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment process should be continuous (figure 1); therefore a web-based model has been adopted in Cheshire West and Chester to ensure that the latest data is available and easily accessible for local people and partners in the public, private, community and voluntary sectors.
The information contained within the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment will be used as an evidence base to inform a number of local authority and primary care trust plans and strategies, which will include:
- the long term Sustainable Community Strategy for West Cheshire Together (the Local Strategic Partnership for Cheshire West and Chester);
- the Strategic Commissioning Plan of NHS Western Cheshire; and
- the Local Area Agreement for Cheshire West and Chester
