Welcome

NHS Western Cheshire is the organisation that commissions health services for the local population and makes sure local services meet the needs of local people. We lead the local NHS (hospitals, family doctors, dentists and optometrists and community staff) and work in partnership with other organisations, such as local councils and the voluntary sector, to improve the health and wellbeing of the residents of Western Cheshire.

What we do:

Each year we spend tax-payers money - your money - on local health services. NHS Western Cheshire aspires to be a better commissioner; we want to be World Class. All Primary Care Trusts were assessed as part of the World Class Commissioning assurance process in Autumn 2008 will be assessed annually thereafter. Here are the results of our first assessment.

Our main care provider of hospital care is the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where approximately 90% of our hospital patients are treated.

Our other main hospital providers include Wirral University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, North Cheshire Hospitals NHS Trust and Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Mental health services are commissioned from Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Outside of hospital, we commission services from dental practices, general medical practices and community optometry practices (opticians) and pharmacies.

Our main community services are commissioned from ‘Community Care – Western Cheshire’. We also commission a diverse range of other services including hospices, North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Cheshire West and Chester Council and the voluntary sector.

We work hard to improve your health and well-being and reduce health inequalities.

We have a responsibility to safeguard the health of our local population and this responsibility extends to ensuring that organisations from whom we commission services meet the requirements of the Health Act 2006 governing infection control.

We are committed to maintaining the dignity and privacy of our patients at all times by providing same-sex accommodation and we expect all organisations that provide NHS care to do the same.

Our Primary Care Trust Board oversees all our activities and makes sure we are accountable to you for the way we spend tax-payers' money - your money - on local health services.
